Christians Have Neurological Disorder?
02.22.05 (10:45 am)   [edit]

HBO's Bill Maher Says Christians Have Neurological Disorder, Are Crazy

Bill Maher, host of HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher, says that all Christians are crazy and are unenlightened because of their faith. Maher made the comments on MSNBC's Scarborough Country.

Maher said: "We are a nation that is unenlightened because of religion…I think that religion stops people from thinking. I think it justifies crazies. I think that flying planes in a building was a faith-based initiative. I think religion is a neurological disorder. If you look at it logically, it's something that was drilled into
your head when you were a small child."

"When you look at belief in such things--as do you go to heaven, is there a devil--we have more in common with (Muslin countries) Turkey and Iran and Syria than we do with European nations and Canada and nations that, yes, I would consider more enlightened that us."

Maher said he wasn't speaking only of  vangelicals, but included all religious people. He said he agreed with Jesse Ventura "who had that
quote about religion is a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers."

Because of their neurological disorder, he said Christians "do not believe in science and  ationality." He went on to say the future does not belong to religion. One recalls the famous quote from the Beatles in the 60's that they "were more popular than Jesus."

According to Maher, the Bible is a book of fairy tales, calling the account of Jonah a fairy tale the same as Jack in the Beanstalk.

Had Maher said such things about homosexuals, he would have been immediately fired. But because he was speaking of Christians, his bigotry was acceptable to HBO, owned by Time Warner Inc.

Unfortunately most insurance companies will not cover the cost of treatment for Fundamentalist Christian Neurological Disorder (FCND). Maybe if we had a National Health Care system some of these people could get treatment...

Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and
utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.

Perhaps we should thank Bill Maher for his kindness in having us
blessed!

Or should we ask him where the reason is in his own arguments? As I
recall, if any premise in a logical argument is false, than the
falsity is carried through to the conclusion and the conclusion is
therefore false. Again, Aristotle insisted that you cannot have a
generalization without complete enumeration - that is, you need only
find one example of something that is contrary to that of a general
statement for the general statement to be false. For example: Pope
John Paul II; Mother Theresa of Calcutta or any one of thousands of
leading scientists, statesmen, medical professionals and so on, who
are Christian, rational and working hard for their fellow human
beings. Any one of the above would render Bill's generalization to
be false.

Or is this too much for Bill to take in all at once?

2COR 12:10 Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults,
hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for
when I am weak, then I am strong.

So then, nothing new in this kind of language. Bill is simply
expressing a view that has long been held by those opposed to
Christianity - a view that is just as false now as it was way back in
St. Paul's day. Are his arguments convincing? Not really - unless
one is prejudiced against Christians to begin with.

Good point about Bill and Xians. It's so acceptable these days to slam Christians. Imagine if we were to group all Liberals, Muslims, Jews, etc. into one sweeping category.

I think you make good points here, though remember it's not just Christians he is talking about but any one of any religion or faith..he is basically calling over half of the world crazy.

Exactly my point, he has lumped all persons of faith or religion together. Yet out of his own mouth he condems himself and all his other friends who might be Liberals, Muslims, Jews, Buhdists, scientologists, etc.
